AMOXICLAV MECHANISM OF ACTION:

AMOXICILLIN MECHANISM OF ACTION:

It is beta-lactam antibiotics.It enter to bacterial cell and binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs){transpeptidase}.it cause inhibit the transpeptidation reaction and block cross-linking of the cell wall.so bacterial cell wall is destroy.

MECHANISM OF CLAVULANIC ACID:

Long term use of antibiotics bacteria became resistant against antibiotics.in which bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes.that enzymes dissolve the beta-lactam ring of antibiotics and antibiotics can’t work.

So,in that case clavulanic acid is used.

Clavulanic acid contains a beta-lactam ring in its structure that binds irreversible to beta-lactamase enzyme.so clavulanic acid destroyed enzyme and preventing the beta-lactam antibiotics.

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE OF AMOXYCILLIN WITH CLAVULANIC ACID:

amoxicillin dose for adults:

500 mg orally Twice a day

amoxicillin dose for children: (6 months to 12 years)

15 mg/kg orally twice a day
