CALCIUM CARBONATE MECHANISM OF ACTION :
Calcium carbonate( CaCO3) is inorganic salt.
ANTACID :
Calcium carbonate acts by neutralizing hydrochloric acid in
stomach.
CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(aq) >
CaCl2(aq) + H2O(l) +CO2(g)
Calcium carbonate inhibits the action of
pepsin by increasing the pH.
So,Cytoprotective effects may occur
through increases in bicarbonate ion (HCO3-) and
prostaglandins.( cytoprotective agents prostaglandins which protect
the stomach mucosa by increasing gastric
mucus secretion.)
Neutralization of hydrochloric acid
results in the formation of calcium chloride, carbon dioxide and water.
Calcium salt:
After stomach passing calcium salt
absorb from instestine.
