CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(aq) > CaCl2(aq) + H2O(l) +CO2(g)

Calcium carbonate inhibits the action of pepsin by increasing the pH.

So,Cytoprotective effects may occur through increases in bicarbonate ion (HCO3-) and prostaglandins.( cytoprotective agents  prostaglandins which protect the stomach mucosa  by increasing gastric mucus secretion.)

Neutralization of hydrochloric acid results in the formation of calcium chloride, carbon dioxide and water.
